Turkey may get winter time again

2017-09-27

Turkey's Council of State has ruled last year's decision to keep UTC +3 all year invalid. With the all-year daylight saving time now cancelled, Turkey may fall back on winter time again on 29 October, unless a new decree is issued.

Turkey cancelled winter time on 8 September 2016, and has been observing UTC +3 since March 2016. With some exceptions, Turkey has in recent years stayed in sync with Europe's DST policy, observing daylight saving time from the last Sunday of March to the last Sunday of October.

The annulment of last year's time change came after a case was filed by parents who were concerned that their children had to go to school in the dark as a consequence of Turkey having summer time all year.

Update: Turkey will stay on UTC +3 in 2017, but falls back on UTC +2 in 2018.
